Email After Layoff

Dear Mr. Jones,
As you are probably aware, the economic downturn has taken a toll on the company’s profits and we have been going through a rough time this past one year. Our sales have dropped over 60 per cent in the last six months and we don’t expect them to return to normal in this quarter.
Due to the severe impact on our business, we regret to inform you that we are laying off certain employees on the basis of their work in the past couple of years. Since you have not completed your probation period here, I am sorry to say that you have been laid off.
You are entitled to two month’s severance pay, which will be paid in full on your next paycheck.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication at North-South Industries.
